The most significant developments in dentistry Sincé I joined the profession.
Introduction
The technology in dentistry has been developed significantly lately, increasing the technological level of new materials, methods and equipment which have been developed over the last ten years:from the CO2 láser which was invented in 1999 to other methods and equipment of Sincé I joined the dental industry in 2003 such as Waterlase!

However, whilst dentists have been experimenting for years, dental implant technology has only recently made a full impression on the dental industry. What makes dental technology work is a process called osseointegration where the dental implant fuses to the bone that way the result is a permanent replacement for missing teeth that can last for years. In addition to this, dentists have been using digital X-rays as they are excellent option for cáncer patients as they produce less radiation. Digital technology has contributed to the development of new X-ray equipment.
In the case of the orthodontic surgery, invisalign has changed the orthodontic industry. This consists a set of clear removable aligners that mové your teeth into place without brackets or wires. Invisalign is completely pre-planned and computerised from the start of treatment.
Invisalign not only reduces the number of visits and soreness from frequent adjustments, but noone will notice that you are wearing braces! Another new technology which has been developed is Oraverse which is designed to reverse the effects of local anesthesia so numbness wears off in half the time. Oraverse normally helps busy professionals who need to return to work after their dental treatments or patients who wish to resume everyday activities faster, such as eating, drinking and speaking. Another new development which I have used is ultrasonic dental treatment which helps remové dental tartar faster and more thoroughly. Ultrasonic dental treatment is an effective form of dental treatment, when combined with a proper oral hygiene and healthy diet it may help reverse the symptoms of gingivitis. Láser dentistry has been a fascinating development in dentistry as from its combination of láser energy and high-pressure water spray to remové decay from your tooth. Design for the preparation for cavities and gum disease treatment, waterlase is an excellent product for fearful patients who may be dettered by the sounds and smells of the dental office.
Thanks to new technologies, modern dentists like myself can treat patients more quickly and more efficiently and more comfortably. Some equipment have eliminated the use of drilling. And even more exciting are the developments that will enable patients to grow new teeth, perhaps permanent without the need of drilling or filling.
The strengths and weaknesses of dentistry practice in my country.
This report provides an insight of the strengths and weaknesses of dentistry practice in my country which is Spain.
The weaknesses of denistry practice in my country
Over the last decade, there has been an increased number of weaknesses which effects the dentistry practice in my country. Overall, our teeth are as important for our wellbeing as a bone or any other part of the body, so I think they will be treated in the same way, or very similar in the future. Basically, I am referring to the Health Services, so many years apart from other countries where their citizens can access to many dental services which used to be forbidden in Spain. Basic and needed treatments (of course I do not mean luxury ones like dental aesthetical!) are accessible to everyone without the need of applying for a loan, however other things are not. In Spain the Health Services only give free treatments for adults to have extractions and children to have an annual check-up. For this reason, there are many dental chains whose owners are not dentists and use the dental clinic as a business. They give loans to the patients and cheaper prices in exchange for a complete treatment. With the crisis many of these dental clinics have closed down and many patients have interrupted their treatments therefore patients dont receive a refund from these treatments.
The strengths of dental practice in Spain
On the other hand the strengths of dentistry practice in my country are the following: The Spanish education system has been excellent, it offers outstanding universities with excellent professors and senior tutors . It offers you the opportunity to learn a lot throughout these five years of your career, and when you finish your degree you can choose from a variety of post graduate studies as well as having the flexibility to have access to do different types of weekend courses, by going to conferences and congresses in different cities and countries around the world. In these universities, you can find new technologies such as: digital x- rays, when a few years ago they used x-rays, the medical histories are now computerized, there are new materials and dental instruments that the student can use.
